Do not drag yourself

Making the first change to your life is not as difficult as you imagined. So don’t reject yourself at the first place before trying.

Just get started with handy small steps such as go to bed earlier, eat fewer cakes or drink less soda, walk a few more steps and so on. These small steps accumulated in months will lead to big changes of your life.

No one is dragging you from making these small changes and only you are the one who is dragging yourself. There might be many internal or external imagined consequences that hesitate you, but whatever it is, the sky won’t fall and it is not the end of the world. It is your making changes to your life that matters the most, all the imagined consequences don’t matter much. Let alone, they are imagined.

So do not drag yourself from becoming better.

Self-believe

Our life journey is a long and lonely journey.

Along the road, we may have many companions who come and go. But above all, they are all just companions and you have to step your own steps and walk your own trace. You see your own scenes and pause at your own spots. You can not put your soul into another person’s body to taste another life or invite others’ souls into your body to share what you are deeply experiencing, joys or sorrows.

That’s why we say your life is yours and yours only.

Along this lonely journey, all you can and should rely on is yourself. Thus you should believe in yourself and fully immerse yourself into your journey as if there’s no one else around. If you don’t believe in yourself, you are sparing your energy somewhere else and inevitably lowers the productivity of your life which requires all of your energy. Thus why bother?

Just believe in yourself and work towards your goal. Right or wrong defined by others are secondary.

Action vs vision

When I emphasize the vision, it might confuse people that drawing a complete vision is more important than actual effort of taking actions. It is not the case.

A vision gives you the sense of direction and grant you peaceful mind when paying your effort. However, without actual work, it is impossible to draw a realistic thorough vision. On the contrary, once you have experiences through actions, these experiences help you tune your vision to be more feasible.

Refined soul

There are so many philosophies discussing the nature of life, the world and the society. Learning the world and ourselves is definitely a life-long process and I want to use my life to test one simple idea – a life with endless pursue of negentropy.

I want to represent a constantly refined soul trying to increase negentropy into every single aspect of life. A larger ambition is to introduce negentropy into the surroundings and the world. I believe from a certain angle, the meaning of human life is to strive against the law of the world with simultaneously increasing entropy. We do our best to bring order to our lives, during which we learn and apply the knowledge and we grow. We cannot completely control life but we respect ordered life.

Vision of your world

To either ignite your stars or create your bricks, you need a vision of them even before you get started. Since you are standing on a prairie, you can wildly imagine your vision without limitation.

You may not need to start your vision with rigid details as it is not realistic. And you can always modify the vision while you are constantly working towards it. Draw your vision to guide your first step. The next will be easy.

Bricks, another analogy

I show my great acknowledgment to the military training, where a premature young teenager learns to become a capable and responsible soldier.

There, we focus a few years solely on the repetitive training, that simple. However, it is the repetition that establishes the sense of disciplines, the unbreakable habits and the steely willpower. Eventually, these simple but hard repetitions make solid bricks for the soldiers that are readily utilized to build up their dream lives.

The process of creating theses bricks is super condensed in military training. But for us,  ordinary persons, this process is too diluted in life to be somehow invisible. This makes us forget that we also need these bricks to live a fruitful life. Although we may not have served in the military, we can still be sober and create our own bricks by repetitively improving and polishing the knowledge or habits we appreciate in our lives.

Extreme Ownership

Recommend an interesting book: Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin.

The authors applied the strategies and wisdom achieved from real battlefield to business and life.

The battlefield is the most efficient place to learn the wisdom of life to become disciplined. Without the constant threatening of life as normal citizens, we tend to ignore the urgency to establish good habits and try to subconsciously forget the hard truth that we only live once.

Carrying the understanding that we are all dying, fast or slowly, we can live our own lives and take the total responsibility for our lives no matter how it goes. I think that is the spirit of the book. You are the only one who live your life and you have the extreme ownership over it.

Focus

It feels so good to know about Yoshua Bengio today and some of his statements. It is so nice that another person is also doing the same thinking as you are.

We all appreciate the eureka moments but we should also acknowledge the long time of preparation and focus for these moments.

work your desire

I lifted up the book shelf on my working desk a little bit. I corrected one cable connection of the audio speaker on my working desk today and made it work again, which has been silent for years.

These two simplest adjustments of my lab environment made my working efficiency greatly improved and my working more enjoyable.

Life is just like this. It is never perfect and you always find something with deficiency. You have the desire to improve something, maybe a lot, in your life. Then do not wait for a perfect time, just work it out. Most of the time, theses improvements only take a few minutes and give you a much better life.

Star 4: Prepacked meals

I am a big fun of prepacked meals.

Originally, it was simply a way to accurately control my diets. Indeed, it worked and showed a weight change under control, which makes me understand my body better.

A side-product, perhaps more profound, is that the prepacked meal spared me from answering three basic questions of life every day: what to have for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which normally bring stress to me three times a day. I don’t have to think about these questions any more and I don’t have to cook for meals every day. One time preparation works for a whole week and I can use the saved time from thinking, shopping, cooking and even eating on other valuable stuff.

It is not in a conflict with enjoyable meals and you can always make your prepacked meals delicious, time-saving and full of nutrition. More important, since you can control your shape, body weight, and nutrition by prepacked meals for most meals in a week, you will feel more satisfaction when you have your one or two cheat meals out of a week.
