About Truth

There are always many debates going on in the world at any given time, on different theories, angles, perspectives, cultures, ideas, so on and so forth. Yes, discussion is beneficial in sorting out one’s ideas and triggering new ideas. Well, the endless debate should not slow down the effort of practicing the ideas.

Actions speak louder than words. Similarly, actual practice is only reliable way to seek for truth and to cease an endless debate.

Practice

The point of practicing came into my mind again in a conversation today.

You are what you do and practice, but not what you think or believe in your mind.

If you are eager to have or achieve something, show the world with what you are doing right now for it.

If you have a principle, belief or determination, practice it. You can only get what you want by practicing for it.

In addition, life is a continuous process of practicing, on either what you want or what you don’t want. As long as you are alive, you are practicing something, so practice what you want.

Limited and Unlimited life

What we can achieve in life is both limited and unlimited.

Limited life is because we have limited time and everything full of value that we call achievement condenses a large amount of time. It is so common that we live our lives for seventy years or more but only have less than five moments, events or achievements to recall. For all the sparkling moments in your life, you have prepared for long time.

While the unlimited life means you can achieve basically anything as long as you are determined and willing to die for it. Our imaginations or the blueprints of life are without boundary. Work on your dream, day in and day out. You can live the life you define.

Connect the dots

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”

—Steve Jobs

My take home message from Jobs’ speech is the encouragement to follow your heart. Beyond that I feel there is an additional insight that you have to love and work on your dots. Don’t easily give them up. The dots could become the stars as I mentioned in my previous posts. There are two effects in being fearless working on your dots:

First, you are truly enjoying and experiencing your life while working on your dots.

Second, you defined your time with your passion and heart blood while working on your dots. You are making values. These valuable periods of your committed time will definitely be connected in the future in some way simply because you have polished your time in your way while others have not. So you don’t ‘have to’ trust that dots will some how connect in your future, because it is a destined fact and you know it will happen just like you know one plus one equals to two.

Cheat sheet on time investment

The theories of how to invest time could be a whole book and more.

To begin with, we could use one sentence as a trick:

“Only do what you really want, and do it hard.”

“Only do what you really want” suggests you to limit your ambition before you can master your minimum needs, such as good sleep, good meals, efficient learning and working, good family time and such. Being ambitious to involve too many stuff into your daily routine will distract your attention and undermine your experiencing of life, resulting in a dilemma : too busy to actually live.

“and do it hard” suggests you to focus on what you are doing with all your senses, cells, attention, passion and energy as if you forget yourself. In this way, you are doing it most efficiently and you are deeply experiencing your the move life and your time.

Let’s go and do some minus of your list and work the rest to the most.

Star 3: English

It is so necessary and helpful to learn from others with their own languages.

To learn about others’ opinions towards a certain topic, relying on translation is always risky and vulnerable to filtering and bias from the translator, not to mention that translation is not available for most of the materials. The knowledge is in this world is not generated using only one language, so only learning the knowledge with your own language means you are inevitably wasting resources from other languages.

It is never too late to polish my English and learn more about it. And if it is possible in the near future, I would be so willing to pick up more languages.

 

What you deserve

For any moment, we have a vision of who we are and what we deserve in our mind. Of course, if what we actually get matches the vision, we feel peaceful in mind. However, in many cases, we don’t get what we deserve, sometimes less and sometimes more.

It is quite interesting that occasionally we get more than we deserve and we are not ready for that. You have the luck you should appreciate it. Otherwise, it is harmful to you.

 

Breaking your limit

Life is just like keeping your body in a good shape. You keep your shape good by putting your effort to do exercise and paying attention to your meals. Without willful efforts, simply waiting in the couch imagining would not keep you in a good shape, let alone a better one.

Even though you are satisfied with your current situation and want to live the current moment forever, it still takes a certain amount of your willful work since time and the world is not going to freeze and wait for anyone.

Given the unstoppable time, if you have some additional ambitions for a better vision of your life, breaking your limit is the only to build a better you. Stay sober while you are in your comfort zone, and break your limit because you can.

up-and-down

Of course, there is no standardized way to live a life.

Whatever decisions you make along your path, as long as they make you feel good and you will make the same decision again if you have a second chance, I am happy for you.

Sometimes we feel stress, negative, scared, upset, low, desperate and so on, yes, it is OK. We were not born perfect and life always surprises us although we have tried our best to program it. These up-and-downs make the beauty of life and show you what is called growth. Only when you fall, experience and survive these negative conditions will you grow a bit.

The ups are the moments that show your growth, but the downs are the processes where you gained your growth.

Gain or lose

Came across a really interesting debate recently.

When you get full and there are still some delicious food left in the plate, what will you do? I used to try to finish them all since that is just a few bites and I should not waste food.

However, getting full itself may already indicate that I have consumed more than my body needs, let alone more bites. Indeed, I didn’t waste food. But the overload of food turns into fat and I have to spend additional time, money and workout to burn this fat caused by not wasting food. What on earth is benefit from the additional bites?
